Outing Program Administration

Signed request of Frank Yarlot to participate in the outing program at the Carlisle Indian School along with a copy of the outing rules signed by Yarlot, Richard Henry Pratt, and William Balderston.

Richard Henry Pratt requests the Government Printing Office print two outing books--in other words, ledgers for the outing program--which he expects "will probably last six years."

Richard Henry Pratt notifies outing patrons of a change in how outing earnings are to be handled. Pratt indicates that paying students directly has led to various offences and as a result all pay will be approved by Pratt. Further any money given to students is no longer considered part of their pay.

Jessie W. Cook requests from Estelle Reel a promotion to principal teacher at Chemawa or another Western School. Cook writes that she wants to introduce the outing system at the Riverside School if that position becomes available.

Richard Henry Pratt requests authority to purchase 100 telescope valises for the use of new students to travel with to their outing homes.

Edgar A. Allen responds to an Office of Indian Affairs letter regarding the temporary appointment of the Treasurer Students' Funds.

Edgar A. Allen provides details on the qualifications necessary to fill the Outing Agent position. Allen notes that the Outing Agent is in charge of the boys in country homes.

Edgar A. Allen provides the qualifications needed for filling the position of Teacher of Domestic Science at the Carlisle Indian School.

Richard Henry Pratt provides correspondence and documents related to a request to return Lizzie and Nancy Chubb to their home. Their father in particular objects to them being sent out to work on the outing program and notes that they are sick.

These materials include a copy of the Outing Rules that were signed on March 20, 1903 by William Moon and S. Reading Bodine. Also included are nine receipts to Bodine for salary paid to Moon as well as a request from Moon for funds to make purchase.

J. R. Wise informs the Office of Indian Affairs of the reason for the delay in forwarding the attendance report of the school for the quarter ending September 30, 1905.

William A. Mercer requests authority to purchase mileage books for outing agents in order to save money after the discontinuance of the half-rate fare.

A note on the file states that no public money can be used to pay for future services.

William A. Mercer requests authority to pay for expenses involved in placing students in their outing homes as well as visiting them.

William A. Mercer provides an overview of the physical plant of the Carlisle Indian School for the 1906 fiscal year and provides an estimate for the 1908 fiscal year. Mercer further makes suggestions on ways to improve the physical plant.

William A. Mercer requests the U.S. Government Printing Office produce an outing record book consistent with prior record books.
