Jacob White Cow Killer Student File

Student file of Jacob White Cow Killer, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on August 12, 1887 and departed on July 4, 1893. The file contains a returned student survey, a student information card and a report after leaving indicating that White Cow Herder was a herder in Pine Ridge, South Dakota in 1911.

In school documentation Jacob White Cow Killer is also known as Jacob C. Keely.

Sowcea Kinery [?] and Samuel Keryte [version 2], c.1885

Studio portrait of Sowcea Kinery [?] and Samuel Keryte, both wearing school uniforms. Keryte is definitely the student standing at right.

Note: The identification of Kinery is a guess based on interpreting the handwritten caption, and the fact that he arrived on the same day as Keryte. Kinery was 14 at arrival and Keryte was 16.

Richard Doanmoe [version 1], c.1886

Richard Doanmoe as an infant. Doanmoe was born in 1886 and this photograph was probably taken soon after.

This photograph originally appeared in an album that E. A. Seabrook, a teacher at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, received from his students on December 25, 1886.

The Cumberland County Historical Society has two copies of this image: PA-CH2-016c and CS-CH-105.

The handwritten note reads: Kate Irvine Kinzhune and Eunice Suison

This image is believed to have been taken in February, 1888. Kate was the daughter of students Hulda and Arnold Kinzhuna. Eunice was the daughter of students Annette and Neal Suison. The photograph was sold under the title "The Apache Babies" or "Our Apache Babies."
