Alexander Yellow Wolf Student File

Student file of Alexander Yellow Wolf, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on September 12, 1885 and departed on July 29, 1890. The file contains returned student surveys, a news clipping and a report after leaving indicating that Yellow Wolf was a police officer in Kyle, South Dakota in 1910.

In school documentation Alexander Yellow Wolf is also known as Alex Yellow Wolf.

 

Thomas A. Skenandore Student File

Student file of Thomas A Skenandore, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on March 23, 1888 and ultimately departed on May 18, 1896. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains two student information cards, a newspaper clipping, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Skenandore was farming in West De Pere, Wisconsin in 1910 and was the second American Indian to serve in the United States Navy.

Taylor Hanks Student File

Student file of Taylor Hanks, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 8, 1910 and departed on February 8, 1915. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, a returned student survey, a trade/position card, a former student response postcard, an outing evaluation, a financial transaction, medical/physical records, letters/correspondences, an outing record and a progress/conduct card. 

 

Jacob White Cow Killer Student File

Student file of Jacob White Cow Killer, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on August 12, 1887 and departed on July 4, 1893. The file contains a returned student survey, a student information card and a report after leaving indicating that White Cow Herder was a herder in Pine Ridge, South Dakota in 1911. 

In school documentation Jacob White Cow Killer is also known as Jacob C. Keely. 

 

Sowcea Kinery [?] and Samuel Keryte [version 2], c.1885

Studio portrait of Sowcea Kinery [?] and Samuel Keryte, both wearing school uniforms. Keryte is definitely the student standing at right.

Note: The identification of Kinery is a guess based on interpreting the handwritten caption, and the fact that he arrived on the same day as Keryte. Kinery was 14 at arrival and Keryte was 16.

Richard Doanmoe [version 1], c.1886

Richard Doanmoe as an infant. Doanmoe was born in 1886 and this photograph was probably taken soon after.

This photograph originally appeared in an album that E. A. Seabrook, a teacher at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, received from his students on December 25, 1886.

The Cumberland County Historical Society has two copies of this image: PA-CH2-016c and CS-CH-105.

This image is believed to have been taken in February, 1888. Kate was the daughter of students Hulda and Arnold Kinzhuna. Eunice was the daughter of student Annette Suisson. The photograph was sold under the title "The Apache Babies" or "Our Apache Babies."
