This photograph originally appeared in an album that E. A. Seabrook, a teacher at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, received from his students on December 25, 1886.

Mary Ayers Student File

Student file of Mary Ayers, a member of the Catawba Nation, who entered the school on September 14, 1904, and departed on June 21, 1909.  The file contains two student information cards, a former student response postcard, correspondence, a returned student survey, a progress/conduct card, and a report after leaving indicating that Ayers was working as a housewife in Roddy, South Carolina in 1913.

In school documentation Mary Ayers' name is also spelled Mary Ayres. She is also known as Mary E. Ayers. Her married name is Mary Ayers Fox.

James Hears the Wind Student File

Student file of James Hears the Wind, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on March 14, 1904 and departed on June 23, 1909. The file contains a student information card, medical/physical record, a returned student survey, correspondence, a trade/position record card, a progress/conduct card, a news clipping and a report after leaving indicating that he was a farmer in Grosse, South Dakota in 1910.

Ella Medicinetop Student File

Student file of Ella Medicinetop, a member of the Cheyenne Nation, who entered the school on January 4, 1909 and departed on June 24, 1912. The file contains a student information card, medical/physical records, an application for enrollment and a progress/conduct card. 

In school documentation Ella Medicinetop's name is also spelled Ella Medicine Top.

 

Alexander Yellow Wolf Student File

Student file of Alexander Yellow Wolf, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on September 12, 1885 and departed on July 29, 1890. The file contains returned student surveys, a news clipping and a report after leaving indicating that Yellow Wolf was a police officer in Kyle, South Dakota in 1910.

In school documentation Alexander Yellow Wolf is also known as Alex Yellow Wolf.

 

Thomas A. Skenandore Student File

Student file of Thomas A Skenandore, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on March 23, 1888 and ultimately departed on May 18, 1896. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains two student information cards, a newspaper clipping, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Skenandore was farming in West De Pere, Wisconsin in 1910 and was the second American Indian to serve in the United States Navy.

Taylor Hanks Student File

Student file of Taylor Hanks, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 8, 1910 and departed on February 8, 1915. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, a returned student survey, a trade/position card, a former student response postcard, an outing evaluation, a financial transaction, medical/physical records, correspondences, an outing record and a progress/conduct card.
