This folder contains documents related to Charles E. Dagenett's time in the Indian Service as Supervisor of Indian Employment. Dagenett enrolled at Carlisle in 1887 and graduated in 1891. Though he did work on and off in the Service in the 1891-1905 period, this folder only covers Dagenett's employment from 1905 onwards, (see his Service Record Card).
The first PDF starts with Dagenett's service record card then contains correspondence about settling Dagenett's government accounts after retirement. The remainder of the PDF is about his retirement.
The second PDF focuses on documents about Dagenett's date of birth (needed to be confirmed) and financial matters (debts he accrued as an individual, his salary/per diem expenses, bond as a disbursing agent).
The third PDF also includes documents related to Dagenett's financial matters. In addition to those, there are a few more letters about Dagenett's orders for travelling (permission to stay in Washington and placement of a Native man at farms in Rocky Ford, Colorado). There is also a letter from Richard Henry Pratt which disdains Dagenett's work in placing large groups of young men on farms.
The final PDF includes documents related to the establishment of Dagenett's position as "a clerk to obtain employment for Indians" which eventually evolved into being Supervisor of Indian Employment. This includes discussion of his salary and bond.
The first three PDFs tend to be arranged in reverse chronological order, while the last PDF is in chronological order. PDF Four slightly overlaps with PDF Three.
