J. R. Wise informs the Office of Indian Affairs that James Meehan has not reported for his assignment as assistant carpenter. As a result, Wise requests that Daniel A. Reed who is temporarily employed in the position to be permanently appointed.
William A. Mercer responds to an Office of Indian Affairs by stating that the position of tinner should be filled by a plumber who understands roofing or a tinner who understands plumbing.
William A. Mercer requests authority to employ a temporary instructor of bricklaying, plastering, and cement work. Mercer states that the position has been requested for the following fiscal year but that there is a large amount of work for the next couple of months which could be done by students rather than irregular employees.
William A. Mercer informs the Office of Indian Affairs that H. B. Lamason has received notice that he has obtained an average percentage of 99 on his Civil Service examination. Mercer requests that he is considered for the permanent appointment of mason at the Carlisle Indian School.
William A. Mercer requests authority to hire a quarryman to quarry stone who is familiar with dynamite for 120 days. Mercer notes that this position is needed to secure stone for buildings and for crushing to use in cement work and macadamizing roads.
Assistant Secretary of the Interior James W. Wilson informs the Commissioner of Indian Affairs that he's increasing the salary of the Engineer position at the Carlisle Indian School from $900 to $1100 per year.
