Student file of Albert J. Minthorn, a member of the Umatilla Nation, who entered the school on August 27, 1892, and departed on April 23, 1894. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, correspondence, and a report after leaving that indicates Minthorn was working as a farmer and stock raiser in McKay, Oregon in 1913.

In school documentation Albert J. Minthorn is also known as Albert Minthorn, A. J. Minthorn, and We-op-ski-yi-tumpb.

 

Mollie Mantel Student File

Student file of Mollie Mantel, a member of the Osage Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1909 and ultimately departed on June 10, 1913. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a progress/conduct card, medical/physical records, an outing record, an application for enrollment, a report after leaving , a returned student survey, and correspondence related to financial transactions, medical issues, and an invitation to Mantel's wedding at St. Patrick's Church in Carlisle in the fall of 1913.

Peter Loran (RohyendenReuh) Student File

Student file of Peter Loran, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on August 26, 1897, and ultimately departed on October 2, 1906. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, returned student surveys, former student response postcards, a medical/physical record, correspondence related to Loren's election as Chief, an application for enrollment, and reports after leaving indicating that Loren was a farmer in Hogansburg, New York in 1913.

Frank Cross the River (Saksarie Te o nie Tate) Student File

Student file of Frank Cross the River, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on September 26, 1906, and departed on October 5, 1908. The file contains a student information card, an application for enrollment, a progress/conduct card, and a report after leaving that indicates Cross the River was working as a laborer in 1910.

In school documentation Frank Cross the River's name is also spelled Frank Cross-the-River. He is also known as Saksarie Te o nie tate.

Note: Some records also identify Cross the River as a member of the Iroquois Nation.

 

Louis DeBeau Student File

Student file of Louis DeBeau, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on November 13, 1905, and departed on June 22, 1910. The file contains a student information card, correspondence related to financial transactions, a progress/conduct card, an application for enrollment, an outing record, and a report after leaving that indicates DeBeau was working as a laborer in 1910.

In school documentation Louis DeBeau's name is also spelled Louis DeBoe and Loui Debo.

 

John Sutton Student File

Student file of John Sutton, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 8, 1910, and departed on February 3, 1915. The file contains a student information card, a photograph, outing records, outing evaluations, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, medical/physical records, a progress/conduct card, and correspondence related to Sutton returning home early, locating Sutton's trust patent for 80 acres of land, as well as financial transactions. Sutton's correspondence indicates that he was living in Danbury, Wisconsin in 1915.

Format

The caption reads: CAMPUS AND TENNIS COURT, INDIA SCHOOL, CARLISLE, PA.

The postcard was addressed to Miss Enid C. Straw, 627 Union St., Manchester, N. H. The message reads: "Dear Enid, Was so glad to get your card & will surely write you a long letter in the very near future. The school marms are kept pretty busy keeping bad boys & girls busy. I know you are not of that kind however Ha! Ha! With love, Helen."
