Note: Although the caption on the reverse of the card indicates that Josep [Joseph] Cox is Sioux, school records indicate that he belongs to the Omaha Nation.

As this image is a copied photograph of an original photographic print, the format is "Photograph, Reproduction." It is possible that John N. Choate had an original photograph from another photographer that he wished to copy, or that his own original negative was damaged, and that he needed to make another negative using one of his own earlier prints.

The printed note on the reverse side reads: Ouray and his wife Chipeta; Utes.

This is a copy photographer J.N. Choate made of a portrait taken in 1858 and marketed by Mathew Brady. Choate made a copy of the Brady image and marketed it as his own. Ouray is included in Choate's composite of chiefs who had visited the school. 

The Cumberland County Historical Society has four copies of this image: PA-CH1-018b, CS-CH-040.1-.2, and 10B-02-04.

These are members of a group of Blackfeet dignitaries visiting the school for its commencement in early April of 1913.

According to the school newspaper there were twelve people in this party of visitors. Eleven of them were identified in the paper:  Chief Long Time Sleep, Medicine Owl and wife, Chief John Whitecalf, Chief Three Bears, Lazy Boy, John Two Guns and wife, Fred Big Top , Fish Wolf Robe, and Cecelia Ground.
