For two weeks in mid-January, a second group of researchers undertook a trip to the National Archives in Washington, DC to continue scanning the student files of those who attended the Carlisle Indian School. Tessa Cicak and Katie Walters, special projects assistants at the Waidner-Spahr Library, and Caitlin Moriarty, Friends of the Library Intern in the College Archives, were able to scan 1,550 more student files comprising more than 16,000 pages of documentation.
Student file of Louis Cook, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on October 30, 1906 and departed on April 21, 1911. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, an outing evaluation, a trade/position card, a progress/conduct card, an outing record, an application for enrollment, a former student response postcard, and a report after leaving indicating that Cook was a farmer in Bombay, New York in 1910.

Student file of John Cole, a member of the St. Regis Nation, who entered the school on September 3, 1902 and departed on September 5, 1902. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, correspondence, and a report after leaving indicating Cole was living in Massena, New York in 1912.
Student file of Abraham Cole, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on September 12, 1906 and departed on July 17, 1909. The file contains a progress/conduct card, a student information card, a medical/physical record, an application for enrollment, and a report after leaving indicating Cole was a laborer in Hogansburg, New York in 1911.
In school documentation Abraham Cole is also known as Abram Cole and Am Gan.
Student file of Samuel Brown, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on June 29, 1900 and departed on September 23, 1904. The file contains a returned student survey, a student information card and a report after leaving indicating he was farming in Adams, New York in 1912.
In school documentation Samuel Brown is also known as Samuel Wilson Brown and Samuel J. Brown.
Note: Brown married fellow student Louisa Chubb.
Student file of Joseph Brown, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on June 29, 1900 and departed on August 2, 1905. The file contains a student information card.
Student file of Henry E. Roberts, a member of the Pawnee Nation, who entered the school on October 8, 1911 and departed on January 15, 1912. The file contains a student information card, news clippings with photographs, a returned student survey, and correspondence that indicate Roberts was working in the US Indian Service as a clerk at the Union Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1914.

Student file of Peter Billings, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on April 4, 1908 and departed July 2, 1908. The file contains a student information card and an application for enrollment.
Note: Students Charles Billings and Lucentia Billings may have been siblings of this student.
The Carlisle Indian Industrial School digital humanities project received some attention recently, and comments and questions from new visitors to the project’s website have been rolling in ever since.
