The Images section features photographs, postcards, and different types of artwork, as well as reproductions of images that appeared in newspapers, magazines, and other publications. These images all reflect the Carlisle Indian School students, facilities, and staff. Images available here are drawn from files housed at the U. S. National Archives, from collections of Carlisle Indian School materials housed at various archival repositories, and from a variety of published sources. Studio portrait of Madge Nason (left) and Bertha Nason (right), both wearing school uniforms.

The handwritten note on the reverse side reads: Bertha and Madge Nason. Chippewas from Minn.

This photograph originally appeared in an album that E. A. Seabrook, a teacher at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, received from his students on December 25, 1886.

The Cumberland County Historical Society has a copy of this image: PA-CH1-086b.

Studio portrait of Juan Julian, probably a visiting chief.

This person is identified as Juan Julian in the National Anthropological Archives negative version of this image and also in one of the Cumberland County Historical Society's copies (BS-CH-006). The other copy, located in an album (PA-CH2-075b), is labeled "Augustine." But that is probably a mistake. There are other photographs of a person with that name, wearing similar clothing but distinctly a different person.

Studio portrait of James H. Miller, Jane Vane, an unidentified female student and a visitor, probably a Pueblo chief or family member.

Note: The male student was previously identified as Benjamin Thomas based on cataloging of the NAA negative. A researcher suggested that he is actually James H. Miller. The identification of Jane Vane comes from an annotation on the Cumberland County Historical Society's album copy.
