These materials include correspondence and reports on the record keeping system for student files at the Carlisle Indian School. Supervisor of Indian Schools Charles F. Pierce was critical of the decentralized nature of the student file records. Pierce recommended that Nellie Robertson Denny, a clerk at the school, be put in charge of all material related to students. Student records were to be collocated using the folder and card system in use throughout the Indian Service. Pierce was also critical of how Carlisle's superintendent, Moses Friedman, enrolled pupils from New York and the Northeast as well as how he counted students who were no longer attending the school.
