J. R. Wise requests authority to employ a horticulturist for no more than 60 days beginning on October 24, 1904.

William A. Mercer requests authority to establish a horticulture department at the Carlisle Indian School. As a result he requests to purchase materials to build a greenhouse and establish a position of horticulturist.

William A. Mercer forwards the application of H. W. Leaman for a Civil Service examination for the position of horticulturist and gardener position at the Carlisle Indian School.

William A. Mercer calls attention to his prior letter of the Office of Indian Affairs regarding his request to create a position of horticulturist at the school. Mercer notes that as no action has been taken that it be duly considered.

William A. Mercer informs the Office of Indian Affairs that the application of H. W. Leaman for a special examination as a horticulturist and gardener should come from their Office and not directly from him.

William A. Mercer further discusses his plan to build a greenhouse and to establish the position of florist or horticulturist.

William A. Mercer provides the Office of Indian Affairs with information on H. W. Leaman's attempts to be appointed to the florist position at the Carlisle Indian School. Mercer also informs the Office that Carl J. Schack has declined the florist position.

William A. Mercer informs the Office of Indian Affairs that H. W. Leaman has written to the Civil Service Commission regarding obtaining blanks and instructions for the required examination for florist.

J. R. Wise informs the Office of Indian Affairs that Anton Hahn has declined the appointment of florist at the Carlisle Indian School. Wise further requests the permanent appointment of H. W. Leaman.

H. W. Leaman resigns his position as gardener and florist at the Carlisle Indian School. W. G. Thompson forwards the resignation with the note that the position be filled temporary in order to maintain the thousands of plants and prepare the hot house for the fall.

William A. Mercer informs the Office of Indian Affairs that Karl H. Baker and Andrew H. Wolter have not reported for the positions of printer and florist respectively.

William A. Mercer informs the Office of Indian Affairs that he has no objections to R. H. Hoffman to postpone his reporting date to January 1, 1907 as a florist at the Carlisle Indian School.

William A. Mercer requests authority to advertise and purchase supplies for the construction of a cottage for the florist. Included is the list of supplies as well as the authorization of the Chief Clerk F. M. Conser for pursuing the advertisement.

Carlisle Gardener Reinholt H. Hoffman writes to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs because he was tasked with working as a temporary agricultural teacher but only received a gardener's salary.
