The Cumberland County Historical Society's cataloging identifies them as from the Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Comanche, Pawnee, and Nez Perce nations and that the photo was taken on the date of their arrival, October 22, 1883. Twenty-three male students arrived on that date from those nations.

Portrait of twenty-five female students posed on the school grounds, some in native clothing. One of the students appears to be Rose White Thunder who arrived on November 14, 1883 with a large group from the Sioux nation (Rosebud reservation).
