The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, financial transactions, a former student response postcard, correspondence, medical/physical records, news clippings, an outing record, a progress/conduct card, progress/conduct cards from Dickinson College Preparatory School (Conway Hall), a report after leaving, trade/position record cards, and photographs.
The file indicates that after graduating Long went to Saint John's Military Academy and graduated in 1915. During his time at the academy he wrote to President Woodrow Wilson requesting a presidential appointment to West Point, which President Wilson granted him. However, Sylvester opted not to go and ended up as a Lieutenant in Princess "Pat's" Regiment fighting in World War I. The latest record in the file indicates that he was wounded somewhere in France in 1917.
