Student file of Annie George, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee, who entered the school on December 14, 1893, graduated in 1898, and departed on August 28, 1899. The file contains student information cards, photographs, returned student surveys, a report after leaving, and a letter. The file indicates George attended the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1899, was a seamstress in the Indian Service for six years, sand was a housewife in Cherokee, North Carolina from 1907 to 1911.
In school documentation Annie George is also known as Annie George Smoke, Anna George, and Anna E. George. Her married name is Annie George Tahquette (Mrs. John A. Tahquette), also spelled Annie Taquette (Mrs. John A. Taquette).
Note: These documents were found filed at the U.S. National Archives in the same folder as documents related to a student who attended later on, also named Annie George.
A researcher confirmed that Annie Smoke George was the student who later married John Tahquette.
