Decision not to renew Lease of Alexander Tract

Date
February 19-29, 1908

Special Indian Agent W. W. McConihe recommends that the Carlisle Indian School cancel the lease for the 21 acre Alexander plot of land. McConihe states the rental was originally authorized to provide adequate space for older male students to perform military drills as well as for younger students of both sexes to have a playground. However, the Alexander land has not been used for these purposes, and there is more than enough land on campus for the students to drill or play.

Acting Commissioner of Indian Affairs C. F. Larrabee decides not to renew the lease when it expires on June 30, 1908.
