Request to Enroll a 1/8 Chippewa Girl

Date
December 21, 1911 - January 22, 1912

Thomas B. Mills informs Senator Isaac Stephenson that a 1/8 Chippewa girl would like to attend the Carlisle Indian School and asks him to secure information that would help her to enroll. Stephenson forwards the letter to the Commissioner of Education. Acting Commissioner of Education L. A. Kalbach forwards the letter to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs.

After two weeks pass, Stephenson writes to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs to ask about the status of the application and requests to make a special exception for the girl if she is ineligible. Acting Commissioner F. H. Abbott tells Stephenson to tell Mills to write to Carlisle Indian School Superintendent Moses Friedman, who'll send him a blank application and tell him what the rules for admission are.
