The first article is by John Downing (Cherokee), titles “Learning How to Use Bad Things.” In which he writes about alcohol and the benefits of being nice to the people of the United States, and a letter from Moses Nonway to his mother asking on the health of his people and reflecting on their poverty. The next page contained a list of small events and happenings from around the school, such as White Breast visiting and visits into town. The Editorial followed, explaining how many white people believe that Indians can’t learn and be civilized, and why that thinking is wrong. The final page was four letters from students to various people, such as their parents, friends and the school itself. They mostly focus on returning home.
