The first page opened with an untitled poem, with the first line “God Wants the Boys,” followed by anonymous advice “Be Inventive.” Next came two columns, “Girls Read This,” an exercise for good posture and “Boys Read This,” an exercise for good behavior. The news items on page two gave reports about Charley Wolf and Jesse Paul, Nez Perce students; the marriage of Luther Kuhns to Carlisle student Lizzie Walton at the Pawnee Mission, Capt. Pratt’s word challenge, and the arrival of a group of Comanche students that included Martin Quahada, Odellah Ahtley and Solomon Chandler. Page three featured many short one-sentence news blurbs regarding girls’ bead work, the Sioux Commission, a poem titled “Patience,” Dr. Given’s election as President of the Cumberland County Medical Society, and construction progress on the school building. Page four included “A Carlisle Pupil Learning the Great Lesson of Patience” by Nancy McIntosh (Creek) on her role as a teacher in Indian Territory and “A Lesson From Monkeys,” encouraging students to see, hear and speak no evil.
