Louis Brown Congressional Testimony, 1914

Date
February 6, 1914

A typed transcript of Louis Brown's testimony before the Joint Commission to Investigate Indian Affairs. At the time Brown was a student at Carlisle.

Brown discusses the use of force by the disciplinarians of the school and the biased way punishment is given. He claims that students receive punishments disproportionate to the offence they committed.

In the published version of this testimony Brown's testimony begins on page 996.

Note: In this transcript the student is named Lewis Braun. No student attended Carlisle by that name. Instead, it is likely this refers to the student Louis Brown, who entered the school in 1911.

Note: This content reveals information about corporal punishment, which some readers may find troubling.
