Portrait of Richard Henry Pratt (seated on the bandstand) with one female Navajo student and eleven male students. The female student, Antoinette Williams, had arrived on December 5, 1881. She and Pratt are posed with a group of male Navajo students who had arrived on the day this photograph was taken, October 21, 1882.

The students are, seated, left to right: Tom Torlino, George Williams, Stailey Norcross, Antoinette Williams, Charles Damon; standing, left to right - Manuelito Chiquito, Manuelito Choni, Charlie, John Bitzclay, Francisco, Saahtlie (George Watchman), Benjamin Damon.

There is another version of this photograph (pose 2) with the same group of people. The only difference is that in the other version Tom Torlino is standing at the far left; here he is seated at the far left.

Note: Previous cataloging interpreted the name of the unidentified student as possibly being "Henry Sprane," but there are no records for a student with that name.

Studio portrait of fifteen male students wearing school uniforms. They are identified in the caption as being from the Rosebud Sioux agency and having arrived in November 1882.  

Studio portrait of twelve male students, all wearing school uniforms. The caption says that they were from the Sioux tribe, the Pine Ridge agency and entered in November 1882.

This image appears in John N. Choate's Souvenir of the Carlisle Indian School (Carlisle, PA: J. N. Choate, 1902. The caption reads: ROSE WHITE THUNDER. DAUGHTER OF A SIOUX CHIEF, WHITE THUNDER, IN ELK TOOTH DRESS – AT CARLISLE ’83-’87.

Studio portrait of Edgar Fire Thunder, a member of the Sioux Nation. Another person, named Solomon, is also pictured. This is probably Solomon Chandler (Comanche nation), who attended between 1882 and 1884. Both are wearing school uniforms.

The caption reads: Solomon and Edgar

Studio portrait of Red Cloud, a Sioux chief, with Special Agent Townsend and an unidentified male student. 

The school newspapers reported a visit to the school by Red Cloud and Agent Townsend in January 1883.

Original cataloging for this image interpreted a date of 1894 in the caption written on the plate.
