These images all reflect the Carlisle Indian School students, facilities, and staff. Images available here are drawn from files housed at the U. S. National Archives, from collections of Carlisle Indian School materials housed at various archival repositories, and from a variety of published sources. Note: This negative is in the Cumberland County Historical Society's A. A. Line Collection, which contains images either taken or collected by Line. At some point, either during Line's lifetime or later, images from other photographers, including apparently Everett Strong, were integrated into the Line Collection without appropriate attribution. This image is similar to those attributed to Strong. Therefore at this time we cannot be sure which photographer was responsible for the image.

There is no caption on the front side of this postcard, but there is the name GUSTAVE HENSEL, CARLISLE, PA.

Although this postcard was never sent, someone has addressed it to "Elizabeth R. Kirk, Delaware Hospital, Wilmington, Del."

They have written the following message: "Jan. 18, 1814. Dear Elizabeth, How are you getting along by this time I hope you will soon be well that is all I am wishing now Sincerely yours, Ethel."

Based on school documentation this is likely the student Ethel Greenhair.

There is no caption on the front side of this image, but there is the name GUSTAVE HENSEL CARLISLE, PA.

Although the postcard was never sent, someone has addressed it to Mrs. P. J. Kirk, Delaware Hospital, Wilmington Del. This person writes the following message: "Jan. 18, 1914, Dear Mrs. Kirk, I will drop a postal to you just to let you know that I am getting well also my mind is on Elizabeth all the time and I hope you will be able to come home soon. From Ethel."

It is likely this Ethel is the student Ethel Greenhair, who went on outing to a Mrs. P. J. Kirk while attending the school.
