Sherman Logan Student File

Student file of Sherman Logan, a member of the Seneca Nation. The exact dates of enrollment are unclear. Based on two different documents, Logan entered the school on either August 6 or August 7, 1905, and departed on either October 10 or October 11, 1905. The file contains student information cards and an application for enrollment.

 

Kelley Lay Student File

Student file of Kelley Lay, a member of the Seneca Nation, who entered the school on September 5, 1900, and departed on June 18, 1901. The file contains a student information card and a report after leaving that indicates Lay was living in Lawtons, New York in 1910.

 

Rose and Triller Doran to Present at NAISA Conference in Austin

Project co-leaders Susan Rose and Malinda Triller Doran will travel to Austin, TX to give a presentation about the Digital Resource Center at the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (NAISA) Conference held May 28-31.  NAISA is the "premiere international and interdisciplinary professional organization for scholars, graduate students, independent researchers, and community members interested in all aspects of Indigenous Studies." Last year's conference attracted almost 900 attendees.  We have created a brief flyer describing the project, which Rose and Triller Doran

Sherman Seneca Student File

Student file of Sherman Seneca, a member of the Seneca Nation, who entered the school on September 13, 1898, and departed on August 13, 1904. The file contains a student information card and a report after leaving indicates that Irving was working as a farmer in Irving, New York in 1910.

Note: Since he ran away from his outing home in August 1904, the date of discharge listed on his card as January 12, 1904 is an error; it is actually January 12, 1905.

Valentine McKenzie Student File

Student file of Valentine McKenzie, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879, and departed on June 23, 1880. The file contains a student information card and a report after leaving that indicates McKenzie was working as a farmer in 1910 in Wood, South Dakota.

In school documentation Valentine McKenzie's name is also spelled as Valentine MacKensie and Valentine McKanzie.

 

Fred Tall Crane Student File

Student file of Fred Tall Crane, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on August 31, 1906, and departed on April 2, 1909. The file contains a student information card, an application for enrollment, a physical record card, a progress/conduct card, returned student surveys, a trade/position record card, and a report after leaving that indicates Tall Crane was working as a farmer in Cut Meat, South Dakota in 1911.

In school documentation Fred Tall Crane' name is also spelled Fred Tallcrane. He is also known as Ouzye.

 

Norris Stranger Horse Student File

Student file of Norris Stranger Horse, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 30, 1882 and departed on July 6, 1888. The file contains a returned student survey and a report after leaving that indicates Stranger Horse was working as a farmer in Wood, South Dakota in 1912.

In school documentation Norris Stranger Horse's name is spelled Norris Strangerhorse and Norris S. Horse. He is also known as Shields and Norris Shield.

Note: Stranger Horse was married to former student Grace Cook (Crockery Face).
