Another Team Heads to D.C.

On a thankfully uneventful Friday the 13th, another team of Dickinson researchers drove to Washington, D.C., to continue scanning student files at the National Archives (NARA). Three student interns - Linda Genser, Rachel Kruchten, and Michele Metcalf - as well as Friends of the Library Intern Caitlin Moriarty, will be at NARA for two weeks. In addition to scanning, all are looking forward to visiting various D.C. landmarks such as Eastern Market and Ben's Chili Bowl.

Hugh Thompson Student File

Abram De Lorimiere (Taiothoraki) Student File

Student file of Abram De Lorimiere, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on January 14, 1898, and departed on November 22, 1899. The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a report after leaving, and a former student response postcard that indicates De Lorimiere was making lacrosse sticks for J. R. Flannery in New York City in 1913.

In school documentation Abram De Lorimiere's name is also spelled Abram DeLorimiere. He is also known as Abraham Delormier and Abram Taiothoraki.

Andrew Herne Student File

David Jacobs Student File

The file contains a student information card, a returned student survey, a report after leaving, and a former student response postcard that indicates Jacobs was "working in the woods" in Meno, New York in 1914.

In school documentation David Jacobs' name is also spelled David Jacob.

 

Jose Porter Student File

Student file of Jose Porter, a member of the Navajo Nation, who entered the school on August 31, 1908, and departed on March 19, 1910. The file contains a student information card, correspondence, a news clipping, trade/position record cards, a returned student survey, an application for enrollment, a physical record card, an outing record, a progress/conduct card, and a report after leaving that indicates Porte was working as a printer at the Sherman Institute in Riverside, California in 1911.

Johnson Tarbell Student File

Student file of Johnson Tarbell, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on August 7, 1903, and ultimately departed on October 16, 1906. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, a report after leaving, and returned student surveys. The file indicates Tarbell was working as a time keeper for the B. T. L. Company in Hogansburg, New York in 1910 and in the lumber industry in Hogansburg, New York in 1911.

John Thompson Student File

Note: While enrolled at Carlisle this student was known as John Thompson, but later changed his name to Jonas Thompson.
