Thomas Hawk Student File

Student file of Thomas Hawk, a member of the Hidatsa Nation, who entered the school on November 5, 1915 and ultimately departed on June 3, 1917. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, medical/physical records, a vacation request form, a draft registration certificate, an application for enrollment, a news clipping, certificates of promotion, financial transactions, and correspondence. The file indicates that Hawk played football while at Carlisle and was a member of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Caswell where he was a member of the Fort baseball team and band as well as a wrestler and boxer. He was further chosen as a member of the trench mortars, Battery B known as the "Suicide Brigade" or "The Hub of the Wheel" in 1917.

In school documentation Thomas Hawk is also known as Tommy Hawk.

Note: Although this file shows Gros Ventre, a member of the Fort Berthold community has indicated that this individual is actually Hidatsa.
