Zoe McKenzie Student File

File of Zoe McKenzie (here spelled Zouie), a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on October 6, 1879 and departed on June 23, 1880. Her role at the school was that of an assistant matron and interpreter for the first group of students who traveled from Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservations. The file contains an information card and a report after leaving indicating she was a housewife in Wood, South Dakota in 1910.

Family members have indicated that Zoe McKenzie is the correct spelling of her name, rather than Zouie. In school documentation, her name is also spelled Zouie McKenzie, Zouie McKanzie, and Zouie MacKensie. Her married name is Zoe Brave Bird.
