William P. Campbell worked as a teacher and disciplinarian at Carlisle from 1882 until approximately 1894. This is a page from his personnel folder for work for the Department of Interior.
The page that is posted here shows a newspaper clipping in which Campbell relates a story of Hollow Horn Bear's speech while visiting Carlisle in 1883. In his speech Hollow Horn Bear praises elements of Carlisle's curriculum and critiques the growth of the school's cemetery. (This clipping is from The Sunday Oregonian from February 23, 1913.)
The rest of the folder relates to later work Campbell did as Assistant Superintendent at Chemawa and his retirement benefits. If you wish to see it, please contact the project.
