Samuel Chapman Armstrong writes to Richard Henry Pratt informing him that Commissioner of Indian Affairs Ezra Hayt has approved Pratt's idea to recruit Indian youth to attend the Hampton Institute. Armstrong discusses the construction of a new building to house them, and asks Pratt to have photographs taken of the party for promotional purposes.
Armstrong did not know where Pratt at the time of receiving this news from Hayt, and so wrote two letters of similar content and mailed them to two locations. This letter was written to Pratt at Randolph, New York; the other letter was written care of Commissioner Hayt in Washington, D.C.. See the Relevant Entries for the other version of this letter.
