Sophia Metoxen Student File

Student file of Sophia Metoxen, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on September 30, 1885, and ultimately departed on April 12, 1897. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a student information card, news clippings, a report after leaving, a returned student survey in which she writes about her children, and correspondence between her and the school where she writes at length about her family and sending her daughter to Carlisle. The file also contains former student response postcards indicating that in 1914 she was living in West DePere, Wisconsin and working as an agent for a Chicago based jewelry company.

In school documentation Sophia Metoxen's married name is Sophia Silas or Sophia Metoxen Silas (Mrs. Roger Silas).
