Josephine Janese Student File

Student file of Josephine Janese, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 7, 1892 and departed on December 13, 1902. The file contains a student information card, a former student response postcard, a report after leaving, and returned student surveys. The file indicates that Janese worked as a teacher in the No. 4 school room in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and served various roles in the Indian Service including nurse, acting girls matron, assistant teacher and matron, boys matron, and assistant matron.

In school documentation Josephine Janese's name is also spelled Josephine Jannies and Josephine Janies. Her married name is Josephine Janese Sears or Josephine Sears (Mrs. Frank Sears).
