Joseph Irwin Student File

Student file of Joseph Irwin, a member of the Hidatsa Nation, who entered the school on February 23, 1890, and departed on December 2, 1895.  The file contains a student information card and a report after leaving indicating that Irwin was working as a blacksmith in Elbowoods, North Dakota, in 1910.

Note: Although not written on this card, a researcher has indicated that Joseph Irwin's Indian name was Flies Away.

Note: Although this file shows Gros Ventre, a member of the Fort Berthold community has indicated that this individual is actually Hidatsa.
