The file indicates that Chief Eagle was living in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1913, living in Norris, South Dakota in 1914, and living in Rosebud, South Dakota in 1917.

In school documentation Joseph Chief Eagle's name is also spelled Joseph Chiefeagle. He is also known as Joseph Comes Out Holy (also spelled Joseph Comes Out Holly, likely a typo) and Joe Chief Eagle (also spelled Joe Chiefeagle and Joe Chief-eagle).
