Questions about Reproductions and Citations

Can I reproduce materials from this site for personal or commercial use?

The CISDRC site operates under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license (for more details: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/).

If you are going to download or copy something for personal use (family history, a school research paper, a local presentation, etc.), then all of the material hosted on this site is free for you to use as you wish.

If you are going to publish something (online, in print, in an exhibit, etc.), then there may be cases where permissions are required from the institution or individual that holds the original item. Although any photos or documents that are located at the National Archives and Records Administration are freely available for reuse in publications, materials from other locations may have limited restrictions on use. You may address any questions about this to cisproject@dickinson.edu.

Can I have a higher quality version of this image?

Depending on which repository holds the original physical item, you may need to contact that organization to receive a higher quality digital file. Some information about this process appears below, but if you have any questions about whom to contact, reach out to the CISDRC staff at cisproject@dickinson.edu.

The CISDRC can provide higher quality copies (300 dpi full-color TIF) for any materials found at either Dickinson College or the National Archives and Records Administration. Please contact us at cisproject@dickinson.edu and indicate which images or documents you would like to have. If a high-quality scan is already available, there will be no charge for this service. If you need something scanned at a higher resolution than 300 dpi, then a service fee may be charged.

For cases where the original images or documents are held by the Cumberland County Historical Society (CCHS) or the National Anthropological Archives (NAA), you will need to contact those institutions directly to request high-quality copies, and they may charge for this service.

For materials from CCHS, please reach out to Blair Williams at blwilliams@historicalsociety.com or Cara Curtis at ccurtis@historicalsociety.com

For materials at NAA, visit their website here: https://naturalhistory.si.edu/research/anthropology/collections-and-archives-access/rights-and-reproductions. Any questions can be sent to naa@si.edu/

How can I request printed copies of the materials on this site?

If you would like printed paper copies of documents or images found on the website, please email us at cisproject@dickinson.edu to let us know the mailing address where the copies should be sent. Be sure to include the URL for each of the CISDRC posts which have items that you would like to have printed. Depending on the amount of material requested, there may be a fee charged for this service.
