Belt Short Bear (Bert Short Bear) Student File

Student file of Belt Short Bear, a member of the Arikara Nation, who entered the school on August 31, 1906, and ultimately departed on July 6, 1907. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a student information card, a financial transaction, an application for enrollment, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, correspondence, and a report after leaving. The file indicates that Short Bear attended the Chilocco Indian School in Chilocco, Oklahoma and was a farmer in Pawnee, Oklahoma from 1910 to 1913.

In school documentation Belt Short Bear's name is also spelled Belt Short-Bear and Belt Shortbear. He is also known as Bert Short Bear, having requested to be referred to as such in a returned student postcard.
