Benjamin Caswell Student File

Student file of Benjamin Caswell, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on September 9, 1889, graduated in 1892, and ultimately departed on June 10, 1895. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a trade/position record card, photographs, a financial transaction, news clippings, returned student surveys, former student response surveys, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Caswell was the first captain of the Carlisle football team in 1892, attended the Dickinson College Preparatory School, was principal teacher in charge of the Cass Lake Indian School in Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1907, superintendent of the Cass Lake Indian School and Special Distribution Agent in Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1909, and overseer on timber matters in Cass Lake, Minnesota in 1912.

In school documentation Benjamin Caswell's name is also spelled Ben Casswall. He is also known as Ben Caswell.

Note: Caswell married fellow student Leila Cornelius.
