Student file of Richard Eugene Holmes, a member of the Chippewa Nation, who entered the school on March 17, 1909 and departed on July 10, 1909. The file contains a progress/conduct card, an application for enrollment, a student information card, a medical/physical record, a returned student survey, and correspondence.
On the returned student survey, Holmes indicates that he is living in Odanah, Wisconsin with his wife Stella Dennis and is in the theatrical business. Holmes provides a description of his work on the vaudeville circuits by saying "it consists of four High Class songs, and the Chippewa War Dance." Further it shows the how the Indian lived "and the different superstitions that existed in the different departments of Indian Livelihood." Although he does not exaggerate the performance he is criticized and is sometimes not given work by his manager.
In school documentation Richard Eugene Holmes is also known as Richard Holmes and Richard E. Holmes.
