The first page opened with a poem titled “The Girls that are Wanted,” author unknown, followed by “An Indian Dance: By Dessie Prescott, One of Our Pupils.” Also on the page was an article about the importance for Americans to know their history. Page two opened with a treatise on patriotism, followed by a report by Joshua Given that the Carlisle Indian School boys’ congress approved spending $1700 to help build a boys’ dormitory. There was also an article titled, “New, at Chemawa School,” followed by a report of the regular exhibition, and a magic lantern presentation about Alaska.
The third page featured many small news briefs in addition to a list of students sent Out to country homes, new Apache arrivals, and the premature departure of two students from Montana, George Hill and Flora Well Known (Crow). Page four’s “Question Box” answered questions about how Indian school students entertained themselves at school. There was an article about a group of students that exhibited at the Academy of Music in New York, how to sprout oats in a sponge, the weekly “Puzzle Corner,” and reprinted from the Carlisle Herald, “A Manly Boy.”
