James Kawaykla (Kaway-kla) Student File

Student file of James Kawaykla, a member of the Apache Nation who entered the school on April 30, 1887 and departed on August 1, 1898. The file contains student information card, newspaper clippings, and a report after leaving, and news clippings regarding Kawaykla's involvement in a delegation of Fort Sill Apaches debating a removal to the Mescalero Reservation. The file indicates Kawaykla served as an Indian Scout in Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1910.

Note: Although the card in this file shows an arrival date of September 30, other school records confirm that James Kawaykla actually arrived on April 30.

In school documentation James Kawaykla's name is also spelled James Kawakla. He is also known as Kaway-kla.
