Richard Henry Pratt notes that with the completion of the new school building the Carlisle Indian School can accommodate 500 students on its campus. He further indicates that 189 students are currently on outing with only a few in any one district school allowing them to speak English on a more regular basis.
Pratt then discusses that Obadiah Given is unlikely to obtain the full complement of students he has been authorized to recruit due to the pressure against the school. As a result he requests permission to send William P. Campbell, Disciplinarian, and a Crow student to the Crow Agency to recruit 40 students and then have Campbell go to the Sioux agencies for another 20 students.
