The Documents section features digitized copies of documents relating to the history of the school.  These documents include correspondence, graduation pamphlets, and other forms of ephemera, and have been digitized by Digital Resource Center staff.  Today, these documents are preserved in a number of locations, including the Dickinson College Archives and Special Collections as well as private collections.

Request to Continue Recruitment of Chitimacha Students

Date: June 19, 1908 - July 1, 1908

These materials include correspondence regarding a request from Sara Avery McIlhenny to allow the Carlisle Indian School to continue its previous policy of recruiting Chitimacha students from around Charenton, Louisiana. Previously, agents from Carlisle recruited these students, but new enrollment policies ended the practice. McIlhenny's request was granted, and the new policy (outlined in Circular 217) was interpreted broadly in the case recruiting students from the Chitimacha Nation.

Request for Students' Participation in Historical Pageant

Date: June 30, 1908 - June 14, 1912

These materials include correspondence regarding a request from Ellis Oberholtzer to have 70 students from the Carlisle Indian School participate in an historical pageant celebrating the 225th anniversary of the founding of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Further correspondence includes thanks from Oberholtzer following the pageant, and a further request to allow students to participate again in 1912.
