Rules Governing Religious Instruction at the Carlisle Indian School

Chief of the Education Division J. H. Dortch informs Carlisle Indian School Superintendent Moses Friedman that almost every Indian school but Carlisle has had a hard time balancing Christian religious instruction with academics without angering any denomination. Because of this, Dortch would like to base the policies for the rest of the Indian Service on Carlisle's. He lists twelve religious rules that he believes Carlisle follows and asks for any suggestions from Friedman.

Friedman encloses his own list of fifteen religious rules that he believes help to promote "peace and confinement as between the school and the church." He also encloses a copy of the Rules Governing Catholic Pupils at the U. S. Indian Industrial School, Carlisle, PA.
