Student file of William King, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on December 3, 1916 and departed on January 14, 1918. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, letters and correspondence regarding outings, finances, and his life after leaving the school. A letter, dated January 24, 1918, indicates he had joined the Navy. The letter also includes information about his fellow students stationed at the same training camp. A news clipping from 1918, announcing that King died in a Virginia hospital, indicates that he was "the first student of the Carlisle Indian School to enlist in service after the United States declared war."
