Julia Powlas Student File

Student file of Julia Powlas, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school on November 7, 1885, graduated in 1889, and departed on July 8, 1889. The file contains a student information card, returned student surveys, a report after leaving, a news clipping, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Powlas was a laundress in Morris, Minnesota in 1909, and was an assistant matron in the Indian Service in Keshena, Wisconsin in 1911.

In school documentation Julia Powlas is also known as Julia Ann Powlas. Her first married name is Julia Wheelock or Julia Powlas Wheelock (also spelled Julia Powless) (Mrs. Charles Wheelock). After the death of Charles Wheelock she married a second time, becoming Julia Mextoxen (Mrs. Nelson Metoxen).
