Indictment of Stephen E. Kelly for Sale of Liquor to Indians

Date: November 27, 1917 - March 27, 1918

These materials include correspondence regarding the indictment of Philadelphia bartender Stephen E. Kelly for selling liquor to four Carlisle Indian School students. The students, in Philadelphia for a game against the University of Pennsylvania, were disciplined by the school when they were discovered. Kelly's indictment sparked public outcry in Philadelphia, and his indictment was ultimately dropped by a grand jury.
