Mary North Student File

Student file of Mary North, a member of the Arapahoe Nation, who entered the school on October 27, 1879 and departed on February 26, 1884. The file indicates North had married Andrew Tasso, was a housekeeper in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1910, and was an assistant matron at the Cheyenne & Arapahoe School in Darlington, Oklahoma in 1913.

Student file of Otto Wells, a member of the Comanche Nation, who entered the school on September 9, 1880 and departed on July 2, 1891. The file contains a returned student survey, a letter/correspondence, a newspaper clipping, and a report after leaving indicating that Wells was farming in Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1910.

Note: Wells married fellow student Mary Parkhurst while at the school.

Student file of Nellie Robertson, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on November 6, 1880, graduated in 1890, and ultimately departed on July 2, 1896. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a photograph, news clippings, a report after leaving, a financial transaction, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Robertson graduated from the West Chester Normal School in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1896, was a teacher for four years at the Carlisle Indian School, a clerk in the Carlisle Indian School in 1907, the outing manager at the Carlisle Indian School in 1911, and was still working at the school in 1918.

Note: Roberston married fellow student Wallace Denny.

Minnie Atkins Student File

Student file of Minnie Atkins, a member of the Creek Nation, who entered the school on January 22, 1881, and departed on July 8, 1884. The file contains a student information card, correspondence, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving indicating Minnie was working in the U.S. Army in 1915. 

Note: Minnie Atkins was involved in a court case: United States V. Minnie Atkins et. al in 1922.

Justin Head (Rat Head) Student File

Student file of Justin Head, a member of the Apache Nation, who entered the school on February 2, 1884 and departed on March 1, 1892. The file contains student information cards, a returned student survey, land grants, parole records, an outing evaluation, correspondence concerning Head's parole, a trade/position record card, a medical/physical record, financial transactions, newspaper clippings, a Senate resolution, and a report after leaving. The file indicates that Head was living in Florence, Arizona in 1911 and living in Trenton, New Jersey in 1915.

Note: At the time of scanning in the U.S. National Archives, several documents in this folder seemed to relate to a different student, Henry Herrara. Those documents have now been included in the Henry Herrera file: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 107_folder 4523.

Dennison Wheelock Student File

Student file of Dennison Wheelock, a member of the Oneida Nation, who entered the school September 30, 1885, graduated in 1890, and ultimately departed on July 6, 1892. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains photographs, student information cards, news clippings, a report after leaving, a returned student survey, a former student survey, and letters/correspondence.

The file indicates that Wheelock attended Dickinson College, was a band leader at the Carlisle Indian School, a disciplinarian at Flandreau Indian School, a band leader at the Haskell Institute, and was a real estate agent and lawyer in West DePere, Wisconsin in 1909 and 1911. Wheelock was also a member of the Society of American Indians that met with Woodrow Wilson in 1915.

The file indicates Smith was living in Winnebago, Nebraska in 1907 and a farmer in Winnebago, Nebraska in 1914.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, a former student response postcard, a returned student survey, correspondence, financial transactions, and a report after leaving indicating Cloud was working as a dressmaker as well as a housewife in Bay City, Michigan in 1913.

Note: Lucy Cloud was the mother of student Ira Cloud.

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file indicates Williams was a dress maker in Keshena, Wisconsin in 1907 and married and living in Keshena, Wisconsin in 1916.

Delia Kisma Student File

Student file of Delia Kisma, a member of the Pueblo Nation, who entered the school on August 24, 1889 and departed on October 19, 1892. The file contains a student information card, letters/correspondence, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Kisma was a housewife living in Seama, New Mexico in 1910.

Note: At the time of scanning at the U.S. National Archives, a document in this student file seemed to relate to a different student, Nellie Valenzuela. That document has now been included with the Nellie Valenzuela file: NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 56_folder 2791.

Note: Caswell was the father of students Benjamin F. Caswell, Eva Caswell and Louisa/Charlotte Caswell.

The file indicates Patterson was a carpenter in Lewiston, New York in 1909 and 1913 and living in Lewiston, New York in 1916 and 1918.
