Lewis Roy Tarbell Student File

James Johnny Student File

Student file of James Johnny a member of the Alaskan, (Tlingit) nation, who entered the school on October 24, 1903 and departed on June 26, 1908.  The file contains student information cards, a trade/position record card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates that Johnny was a fisherman in Ketchikan, Alaska in 1911.

Note: the student in this file is identified as James C. Johnny, Jimmy John, and Jimmy Johny.

James Shemamy Student File

Student file of James Shemamy, a member of the Caddo Nation, who entered the school on September 13, 1908 and ultimately departed on September 30, 1914. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, applications for enrollment, trade/position record cards, a medical/physical record, outing records, an outing evaluation, a progress/conduct card, a returned student survey, financial transactions, and correspondence.

The file indicates Shemamy worked for E. A. Lane and Son in Carlisle Pennsylvania on the outing program in 1912, was living in Binger, Oklahoma in 1914 and 1915, and was an enlisted member of the United States Army 343rd Machine Gun Battalion, 90th Division, stationed at Camp Travis, Texas in 1917.

Note: In this file the student is referred to by the given names James and Jimmie, and the given names Shemamy, Shemayme, Schemayme, and Shemaymee.

Note: A document of James P. Shemamy's was originally found in the folder of another student; Clarence R. Ross, NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 86_folder 3966.

Note: At the time of scanning at the U.S. National Archives, several documents in this student file seemed to relate to two different students, Charles Williams and George Miller. Those documents have now been included with their respective files: Charles Williams, NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 65_folder 3269; and George Miller, NARA_RG 75_Series 1327_box 86_folder 3967.

The file indicates Williams was living in North Collins, New York in 1913.

The file indicates Mitchell was assisting missionaries translate the Bible into the Navajo language in Tuba, Arizona in 1912.

The file indicates Miller was working at the Ford Motor Factory in Highland Park, Michigan on the outing program in 1917 and 1918.

Daniel Arapahoe Student File

Student file of Daniel Arapahoe, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on May 12, 1911 and ultimately departed on January 8, 1917. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, outing evaluations, outing records, financial transactions, and letters/correspondence. The file indicates Arapahoe received a third prize from the Commissioner of Indian Affairs for a contest in Home Building essays and was living in Pine Ridge, South Dakota in 1917.
