Lizzie Martin Student File

Student file of Lizzie Martin, a member of the Stockbridge Nation, who entered the school on August 22, 1897 and departed on June 30, 1903. The file contains a former student response postcard, a student information card, a returned student survey, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Martin was a housekeeper and farmer in Gresham, Wisconsin in 1910 and a housekeeper in 1913 in Gresham, Wisconsin.

Mary Cook (Ovwari) Student File [entered 1901]

Student file of Mary Cook (Ovwari), a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on August 10, 1901, and ultimately departed on January 24, 1910. The file contains student information cards, a physical record, an application for enrollment, a progress card, and correspondence. The files show that Cook departed from Carlisle after marrying George Gardner (Chippewa), who became the band leader at the Hayward Indian School.

Records indicate that four individuals named Mary Cook/Cooke attended the Carlisle Indian School. The first Mary Cook (Chippewa) enrolled at Carlisle in 1889, age 13. The second Mary Cook/Cooke (Mohawk), sometimes denoted in school records as “Mary Cook #1”, enrolled in 1901, age 13. The third, Mary Belle Cook/Cooke (St. Regis), enrolled in 1906, age 12. The fourth Mary/Marie Cook/Cooke (Mohawk) enrolled in 1916, age 14.

Rosetta Pierce (Da-ga-nade-yohse) Student File

Student file of Rosetta Pierce (Da-ga-nade-yohse), a member of the Seneca Nation, who entered the school on November 23, 1903, and ultimately departed on May 18, 1912. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, student outing records, a progress/conduct card, an application for enrollment, medical/physical records, newspaper clippings, outing evaluations, and a report after leaving. The file indicates Pierce was married to Thomas Owl at the home of Superintendent Moses Friedman and was living in Birdtown, North Carolina in 1912.

Note: in this file the student is identified as Rosetta Pierce and Rose Pierce.
