Alfred DeGrasse Student File

Student file of Alfred DeGrasse, a member of the Wampanoag Nation, who entered the school on November 7, 1904, graduated in 1911, and ultimately departed on May 5, 1911. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains trade/position record cards, news clippings, returned student surveys, student information cards, medical/physical records, an application for enrollment, correspondence, a report after leaving, an outing record, and progress/conduct cards.

The file indicates he stayed in Carlisle through 1913 and was applying for a job at Baldwin Locomotive Works, but living in New Bedford, Massachusetts as of July 1915. The file also mentions that he was the grandson of Watson F. Hammond, the first Native American to sit in the Massachusetts State Legislature.

Note: In this file the student is referred to as both Alfred DeGrasse and Alfred De Grasse.

The file contains an application for enrollment, a student information card, medical/physical records, a progress/conduct card, an outing record, trade/position record cards, and correspondence. The file indicates that Simons was President of the school Y.M.C.A. and was a Lieutenant of Company B while at the school. Simons was living in Mashpee, Massachusetts in 1914, was elected to the position of Town Clerk and Tax Collector in Mashpee, Massachusetts in 1915, and remained in those positions in 1917.

Lyman Madison Student File

The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains a student information card, an application for enrollment, correspondence, a returned student survey, a former student response postcard, a conduct card, trade record cards, financial transactions, an outing record, a report after leaving, and certificates of promotion. The files indicate that Madison studied painting while at Carlisle, and worked for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan after leaving.
