The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file indicates that Elm was a student in the nurses training course at the Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1913 and 1914 on the outing program, continued the course in 1914, and graduated in 1916.  It also shows that she was the supervisor of wards at the Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1917, and was a nurse with the American Expeditionary Force, Unit 34 based in France in 1917 and 1918.

D 6th Wisconsin Infantry at Camp Douglas, Wisconsin 1917, was a member of the 107 2nd Co. Mounted Military Police at Camp McArthur in Waco, Texas in 1917, and ultimately served in France during World War I.

Note: At the time of scanning at the U.S. National Archives, several documents in this student file seemed to relate to a different student, Rosetta Red Eye. Those documents have now been included with the Rosetta Red Eye file.
