Joseph Tarbell Student File

Student file of Joseph Tarbell, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on August 10, 1901 and ultimately departed on November 19, 1910. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, newspaper clippings, applications for enrollment, a medical/physical record, a progress/conduct card, an outing record, a former student response postcard, correspondence mainly related to the Ford Motor Works, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Tarbell was playing professional baseball in the New York State league in Albany, New York in 1911, and was farming in Hogansburg, New York in 1914.

Charles E. Sorrell Student File

Student file of Charles E. Sorrell, a member of the Shoshone Nation, who entered the school on November 6, 1911 and departed on June 8, 1914. The file contains student information cards, medical/physical records, an application for enrollment, an outing evaluation, an outing record, a financial transaction, and letters/correspondence.

Note: A document in this file was originally found in the folder of another student; Charles M. Sorrell, NARA_1327_box 36_folder 1753. Also, at the time of scanning at the U.S. National Archives, this file contained a document relating to another student, Charles E. Sorrell. That document has now been moved to the Charles M. Sorrell file on this site: NARA_1327_box 36_folder 1753.

Max La Chapelle Student File

Student file of Max La Chapelle, a member of the Sioux Nation, who entered the school on January 18, 1913 and departed on March 21, 1918. The file contains a student information card, progress/conduct reports, correspondence, application for admissions, an outing record, medical/physical records, outing reports, a pamphlet from a band concert at the Carlisle Indian School, and financial records. The file indicates that La Chapelle went on outing at the Ford Motor Company, and joined the Radio Corps in the U.S. Army after leaving the school.
