Joseph Tarbell Student File

Student file of Joseph Tarbell, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on August 10, 1901 and ultimately departed on November 19, 1910. The student did not attend the school continuously, but left and reentered. The file contains student information cards, newspaper clippings, applications for enrollment, a medical/physical record, a progress/conduct card, an outing record, a former student response postcard, correspondence mainly related to the Ford Motor Works, and a report after leaving.

The file indicates Tarbell was playing professional baseball in the New York State league in Albany, New York in 1911, and was farming in Hogansburg, New York in 1914.

Hattie Tarbell Student File

Student file of Hattie Tarbell, a member of the Mohawk Nation, who entered the school on October 3, 1916. No departure date is given. The file contains student information cards, an application for enrollment, a medical/physical record, financial transactions, a certificate of promotion, and correspondence mainly regarding the outing program including Tarbell's decision to stay on the outing program while the school closed. The file indicates Tarbell was living in Noble, Pennsylvania in 1918.

Joseph Tarbell (so se teio nen tat te) Application (Did Not Enroll)

Application of Joseph Tarbell, a member of the St. Regis Nation. The application for enrollment, dated August 1906, includes a note at the top suggesting that Joseph Tarbell never used the assigned train ticket to travel to Carlisle. No record of Joseph Tarbell has been found among admissions ledgers, administrative reports, or student newspapers, so it appears that he never enrolled at Carlisle.
